23 Secrets of Successful People

If you thought that successful people were a bit different compared to the general population, you’d be right.

But how exactly are they different?

1) They practice self-discipline

The best indicator of your future success is how disciplined you are. Therefore, make it hard to cheat yourself out of this success. Remove distractions and temptations. You know the saying: “Out of sight, out of mind.”

One of the easiest ways to practice self-discipline is to take pride in who you are and who you want to become. Everything you do becomes part of your image.

Imagine this: Would you put a sticker on your Bentley? You wouldn’t do that because you’d be proud of the car. In the same way, you need to protect your self-image, honor your own time, care for your mind and body, and nurture your intelligence.

2) They are flexible and adapt quickly

Life is filled with surprises. Unexpected events occur, friends and colleagues act out, technology improves constantly, and many other things you can’t predict or be prepared for will take place over the course of your life.

Success is a journey, not a one-time event. And you’ll inevitably face change and distractions. Flexibility is the only way you’ll be able to change your plan and come out on the other side of adversity. In addition, being a flexible person gives you immense power to influence others and learn from them at the same time.

3) They respect their energy levels

Some people can sleep only five hours per night, go to the gym, go to work, and still have energy left for many other things. Some people are like that, but not too many. Most of us need more sleep, more time to relax, less work, and less stress.

Instead of forcing yourself into a routine you can’t sustain because you think it’ll lead to success, figure out what works for you. Why?

You can burn yourself out without even realizing until it’s too late. Enthusiasm, for example, can make you blind to how far and how fast you are going until you drop. Instead, set your pace and speed in the way that works best for you. How do you feel most comfortable? Are you a long-distance walker or a short-distance sprinter? When are you most productive? Early in the morning or late at night?

There is no one-size-fits-all work style. Moreoever, what works for you this year might need some adjustments next year. That’s life, and that’s okay:

You can discipline yourself to become the successful person you want to be. You can adapt, be flexible, and expand your views, horizons, and perspective.
